BIC Corporation

Bill Katt successfully defended BIC Corporation against allegations that they had designed a defective and unreasonably dangerous cigarette lighter because it was not sufficiently child resistant. The plaintiff, a child under seven years old and, therefore, incapable of being found negligent, allegedly started a fire with a BIC lighter. The fire deformed his face, ears and hands. Despite sympathy for his condition, the jury was convinced that BIC Corporation was not responsible for the injuries.
