William J. Katt, Shareholder
Noteworthy Cases:
Heaven Hill Distilleries
Based on the lawsuit brought by the State of Wisconsin against certain manufacturers of tobacco products, the plaintiff in this multi-million dollar lawsuit alleged that alcoholic beverage manufacturers engaged in a conspiracy to mislead, deceive and confuse Wisconsin residents about alcohol. The plaintiff alleged that alcohol products are powerfully addictive substances that cause debilitating and fatal disease.
Although other manufacturers were involved, the Court primarily relied upon briefs from Heaven Hill Distilleries. The Court ordered summary judgment of plaintiff's 11 separate causes of action on grounds that the plaintiff's causes of action were barred by the statute of limitations. Bill Katt and team successfully obtained dismissal of the plaintiff's Amended Complaint because it contained irrelevant and impertinent material, and was not simple, concise and direct as required by Wisconsin law.
