GOVERNMENTAL LITIGATION

The attorneys at Leib & Katt have successfully represented the counties, municipalities and schools of Wisconsin in administrative and civil actions. Headed by Sam Leib and Douglas Knott, we have successfully defended government entities on claims ranging from jail deaths to e.coli outbreaks to wrongful arrests to sexual abuse issues. We have also represented school districts, alternative schools and parochial schools faced with claims of wrongful termination of teachers, negligence and sexual contact. Our expertise covers a wide range of issues including:

  • Dealing with governmental immunities under Wisconsin Stats. 893.80.
  • Litigating cases for counties and affiliated agencies under 42 USCA 1983.
  • Representation on issues of due process and equal protection under the Wisconsin and U.S. Constitutions.
  • Arguing cases in the state and federal appellate courts.
  • Obtaining dismissals based on improper notice of claims and notice of injuries.
  • Interfacing with complex governmental policies and procedures.
  • Interacting with government employees and corporate counsel staff.

A lot of our success in this area is due to knowledge of the special laws pertaining to governmental entities, and the ability to defend catastrophic injury cases.
